North Vernon Elementary

North Vernon Elementary school is located in North Vernon Indiana and serves students who live in both Vernon and North Vernon. Our school began serving our community 50 years ago, and we continue to provide a quality education to these students. We currently educate over 600 students and have 90 staff members who dedicate their time to growing our kids.

NVE strives to provide a safe and loving environment where students get excited about learning, are challenged to be problem solvers, take ownership in their own learning, and are taught to be caring individuals so that they may be successful beyond our walls. We know that our students deserve nothing but the best and work to provide that every day.

Teacher of the Year - Mrs. Jennifer Sanders

Mrs. Jennifer Sanders is our teacher of the year!

North Vernon Elementary congratulates Mrs. Jennifer Sanders as being voted as NVE's teacher of the year 2024. Thank you for being a wonderful educator and dedicating your career to our kids.

A Message from Our Principal

Dear NVE Families,

It is with mixed emotions that we share some news with you today. After much reflection and consideration, both Shelley Marshall and I have made the decision to each accept a position in different school districts for the 2024–25 school year and will be stepping down from our roles as principal and assistant principal of North Vernon Elementary School, at the end of this school year. Shelley will be continuing her career in Madison at Anderson Elementary, and I will be continuing with my career at Southside Elementary in Columbus.

First and foremost, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for welcoming us into this wonderful community. It has been an incredible privilege to serve and to have had the opportunity to guide your children's education during our time here. As leaders of North Vernon Elementary, we have been continually inspired by the dedication and support of our students, families, teachers, and staff. Together, with all of you, we have worked tirelessly to create a nurturing and enriching environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together. From our academic achievements to science nights and positive book character parades, it has been a joy to witness the growth and development of our students.

Ms. Marshall expresses her personal gratitude to each of you for entrusting her to be your child's assistant principal. While she is excited about her new endeavor, she loves her NVE family and is going to miss all of you immensely. She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been part of your children's educational journey for the last several years. She will carry with her the memories of the students, staff, and families of North Vernon Elementary. She takes comfort in knowing that the students of NVE will continue to flourish and grow under the guidance of an amazing staff and new leadership.

Although we both will miss being a part of the daily life of NVE, I am confident that the strong foundation we have built with our staff, students, and community, will continue to support and guide the school forward. Change can be bittersweet, but it also brings new opportunities for growth and fresh perspectives. I am excited to announce that Mr. Leonard Collett will be taking my place as principal, and Ms. Angie Klene will be taking Mrs. Marshall's place as assistant principal. Mr. Collett has been a lifelong resident of Jennings County and has been an elementary principal for seven years. I am confident he will do great things for the kids of NVE! Ms. Klene has served the middle school for over twenty years, with the last seven being an administrator. She too will provide great leadership for our school. Please welcome them both as warmly as you welcomed me six years ago.

As we prepare to embark on the next chapter of our journeys, we want to express our deepest thanks for your unwavering support and collaboration over the years. Your trust in us to lead this school has meant the world, and we will carry the memories of our time together, always. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the benefit of our students, and we are confident that the school will continue to thrive under our new leadership. Please know that I will cherish the memories we have shared and the relationships we have formed.

Thank you once again for allowing me to be a part of your lives and the NVE family. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your principal.

With warmest regards,

Nicholas Hill
